I was born in Maine and went to Winthrop High School in Winthrop Maine where I graduated in 1973. I was 4 sport star as the captain the Football, Basketball and Baseball teams. I was all conference in all three sports and named school MVP in Football as well as the Most Outstanding Athlete. I was also a member of the band/dance band and Chorus. I was recruited to play baseball and football at the University of Maine where I played football for 2 seasons. I graduated from Maine with a BS in Physical Education/Health. Later I started teaching at Penquis Valley in Milo in 1978. At the same time, I attained my Masters Degree in Education in 1979. While teaching for 9 years both elementary and middle school I coached 3 to 4 seasons a year. I coached high school Soccer, Basketball, Gymnastics and Baseball. Later I coached both girls’ and boys’ basketball at PCMS. During my coaching career I won 5 Middle School Basketball championships including an undefeated season. My best accomplishment as a coach was taking the winless High School Girls Soccer team to winning 2 Eastern Maine championships and 1 State Title. During that time, I was named the Maine State Coach of the year in 1984.

I was assigned to Piscataquis Community High School as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director for 6 years. I went back to the University of Maine and received my C.A.S. degree in Educational leadership. During the time I was nominated for Assistant Principal of the Year and named to the Executive Committee of the Maine State Athletic Directors Association where I chaired the Cheering Committee. I stayed involved in coaching as I coached the High School Baseball team to the Eastern Maine Championship game. I also started and coached the downhill Ski team.

At this point I moved into being a Principal at Madison Junior High for 2 years before coming back to Piscataquis as the principal of the middle school/PCMS. I stayed there for 11 years. During my time the school became Apple Computers first Wireless Laptop School in the country and the world in 1998.

My wife Phyllis and I decided to leave Maine for sunny Arizona in 2007 where I took the principalship at Power Ranch elementary in the Higley district where they were an Excelling School. I moved to the Florence District in 2009 taking over at Florence K-8 where I stayed for 4 years. Then Phyllis and I left to do overseas education. I was the Principal at Colegio Interamericano in Guatemala for one year. Then I moved to be the Director of Start-Rite Schools in Nigeria for 2 years. I then returned to the USA and to FUSD by becoming the principal at San Tan Heights.

My philosophy is that education should help all students become contributing members of society. Schools should do what is necessary to encourage, allow and inspire students to become learners that will be responsible enlightened citizens. Phyllis and I have been married for 12 years. We have 5 children between them who are 29 to 37 years old with 6 grandchildren. Phyllis is the Assistant Principal at Circle Cross Ranch Elementary School.

I am excited to continue in my role as Assistant Principal for San Tan Heights! Since 2001, I’ve had the privilege of working in Arizona schools, helping students learn and succeed. I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Special Education from Arizona State University and was a special education teacher and department chair for six years with Mesa Public Schools. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Bilingual Multicultural Education with a full ESL endorsement. Prior to coming to San Tan Heights, I was a junior high school instructional coach for two years and then worked another three years as a district specialist supporting and coaching teachers new to the profession in grades Pre K-8 at multiple schools.

My teacher leader opportunities in Mesa and consulting jobs with the Arizona Department of Education prompted me to pursue administration and, in 2012, I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. I am confident that the San Tan Heights team can foster a thirst for learning in our students. Just watch: as the Hawks, we are Soaring to New Heights!
