Hello and welcome to kindergarten! We’re going to have a great school year. My name is Dana Engel and I will be your child’s kindergarten teacher. I am originally from Chicago, Illinois and moved to South Florida for college in 1999. I relocated to Arizona in 2010. I am married with a 2 year old son and reside in the East Valley. In my free time, I love spending time with friends and family and enjoying outdoor living. My family and I absolutely love Arizona and we now call this “home.” I am super excited to work with each and every child here at San Tan Heights K-8.
Eppie is a kindergarten teacher that provides student engagement, classroom filled with excitement, laughter and the love of learning. She facilitates her classroom in a hands-on fashion utilizing stories and language experiences, on-going opportunities for problem-solving and critical thinking growth and an overall philosophy that a classroom should be child-centered and guided by the teacher.
Prior to teaching in the Florence Unified School District, Eppie taught for a few years in the Philippines, seven years in the Maricopa County Regional Schools servicing the homeless students at Thomas J. Pappas School and its sister schools in the G.R.I.C. (Gila River Indian Community) Estrella Mountain School serving the Native American students, and Williams Community School serving H.R.E. (Home of Refuge East) students. After moving to the Queen Creek area, Eppie decided to teach in the Coolidge Unified School District.
In 2005, Eppie taught first grade in Hohokam Elementary. She’s one of the first teachers that opened Mountain Vista in 2006 teaching first grade until 2009 and taught third grade in 2010. She joined the second grade San Tan Heights team in 2010 until 2012. She became a TAP Master Teacher in 2012 until 2014. She went back into teaching in the classroom in 2014 teaching first grade and in 2015 until present teaching kindergarten.
During her years of teaching in the Maricopa County Regional Schools, Eppie was elected by Intel in Chandler to participate as a grant writing participant that will ultimately provide on-line participation for her classroom and allow her the ability not only to be trained on, but also keep a laptop computer back in 2001 and a Horace Mann Crystal Apple Award in 2002. While in the Coolidge School District, Eppie won the following Awards: Academic Recognition Award for Excellence 2009/2010 presented by the San Tan Area Chamber of Commerce; Scholastic Achievement Award for Excellence 2011 presented by the San Tan Regional Chamber; Scholastic Achievement Award for Excellence 2012 presented by the San Tan Regional Chamber; and Coolidge Unified School District Outstanding Service Award in November, 2012.
Eppie graduated from Cebu Normal University in the Philippines and holds a master’s degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Arizona. She lives with her loving husband of twenty years and counting; a beautiful, twenty-one year old daughter; an intelligent, mature pug; and a demanding cockatiel in the San Tan Heights Community.
